Models we fix

Every iPad, old and new.

Can you replace just the glass on my iPad?

On many standard iPads, yes. The glass and display are separate, so cracked glass is a cheaper fix. On iPad Air, mini and Pro models they're fused, so the whole display assembly is replaced. We'll tell you which applies before any work.

How long does an iPad screen repair take?

Most iPad glass and screen repairs take one to three days, because the old adhesive has to be removed and the new screen bonded properly. Mail-in adds shipping time.

Is it worth repairing an older iPad?

Usually, if it still gets iPadOS updates and only one part has failed. A battery or glass repair costs far less than a new iPad.

Partner store or mail-in: which is better for your iPad?

Both routes start the same way: book online, see a starting price, and get a free diagnosis before anything is fixed. The difference is where the work happens.

A nearby partner store is a good choice for routine repairs like cracked glass or a battery replacement, especially if you want to hand it over in person. Partner stores set their own warranty terms and will explain them to you.

Mail-in to our lab makes the most sense for board-level work: an iPad that won’t turn on, water damage, or data recovery from a dead iPad. That work needs microscopes, microsoldering tools and experience that most counters don’t have. Shipping is free both ways and insured, we diagnose within 24 hours of arrival, and mail-in typically takes 7 to 10 days door to door. See how mail-in works or find a store near you.

The iPad faults we see most

iPads live on couches, in kitchens and in kids’ hands, so the same handful of problems come up again and again.

  • Cracked glass from drops. Corners take most impacts. On standard iPads the glass is a separate part, so it’s the less expensive fix. On iPad Air, mini and Pro, glass and display are fused, so a crack means a display replacement.
  • Worn batteries. iPads are often kept for many years, and lithium-ion batteries lose capacity with age and heat. A swollen battery can lift the screen.
  • Charging ports packed with lint, or worn from years of use. Both Lightning and USB-C iPads are affected. See iPad charging port repair.
  • Board faults after drops and spills. Thin iPads bend more easily than they look, and liquid corrodes the board over days or weeks.

Repair or replace your iPad?

Repair usually makes sense when your iPad still gets iPadOS updates, does what you need, and has one main fault. A new battery or glass costs a fraction of a new iPad and keeps a working device out of a drawer.

If you’re weighing it up, think about how the iPad is used. An older iPad that’s become the kitchen tablet, a child’s device or a reading screen often needs only a battery or glass to do that job for years more. An iPad you rely on for work or school may be worth replacing if it can no longer run the apps you need.

Replacement can make more sense when the iPad no longer receives updates, has several failed parts at once, or the repair would cost close to the price of a newer model. We’ll tell you plainly if we think that’s the case.

There’s one exception worth knowing: if the iPad holds photos or files you can’t get anywhere else, repair is the only way to reach them, even on an old model. An iPad’s storage is encrypted and tied to its own board, so the data can’t be moved to a new device without getting the old one working.

How iPad repair pricing works

Each repair shows a starting price, which is the lowest cost for that repair across the models we see. Your final price depends on your model, the part grade where there’s a choice, and whether anything else is damaged. Laminated displays on iPad Air, mini and Pro cost more than the separate glass on standard iPads, and iPad Pro parts are usually the most expensive.

Some repairs, like water damage and iPads that won’t turn on, start with a free check because the fault can only be priced once it’s found. Either way, you get a firm price before any work starts, nothing is done without your approval, and if we can’t fix it, you don’t pay. See pricing for how quotes work.

If more than one part needs work, it’s often worth doing them together. The display has to come off to reach an iPad’s battery and charging port, so pairing a battery with a screen repair saves a second opening later.

Your data and privacy

Most iPad repairs, including glass, display, battery and port, don’t touch your data. We still recommend a backup to iCloud or a computer before any repair, because it’s the one thing that protects you from anything unexpected.

You don’t need to turn off Find My. We may ask for your passcode only to test the iPad after a repair, and sharing it is always your choice. We never ask for your Apple Account password, and we never bypass passcodes or Activation Lock. An iPad locked to someone else’s account can’t be repaired for use.

How to prepare your iPad for repair

  • Back it up if it still works, or check your last iCloud backup date.
  • Note your model from Settings, then General, then About, or from the model number on the back.
  • Remove the case and screen protector, unless the protector is holding shattered glass together.
  • Keep your Apple Pencil, keyboard and cables at home unless we ask for them.
  • Cover shattered glass with clear packing tape before packing it.
  • If it got wet, leave it off and don’t charge it.

When you’re ready, book your iPad repair to see your price and choose a store or mail-in. You can track your repair at any time.
