iPad battery replacement, for fast drain and swollen batteries.
An iPad that used to last all day and now needs a charger by lunch, or a screen that’s started lifting at one edge. A new battery brings back the runtime and removes a real safety risk.

Signs you need this repair
Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.
- The battery drains in a few hours with normal use
- It shuts off suddenly at 20 or 30 percent
- The screen is lifting or there’s a gap along one edge
- It only works while plugged in
- The percentage jumps around or sticks at one number
- It gets unusually warm while charging
Why iPad batteries wear out
iPads use lithium-ion batteries, and every lithium-ion battery loses capacity with charge cycles and age. Heat speeds that up. An iPad left charging on a warm bed, in a hot car, or under heavy use while plugged in will wear its battery faster than one kept cool.
Because iPads often stay in use for many years, battery wear is one of the most common reasons people book a repair. It’s also one of the most cost-effective repairs, since everything else in the iPad usually still works well.
To make a new battery last, keep your iPad out of hot cars and direct sun, use a reputable charger and cable, and avoid long gaming or video sessions while it’s charging under a blanket or pillow. You don’t need to drain it to zero; regular top-ups are fine for lithium-ion batteries.
Check this before you book
Not every short battery life is a worn battery. Try these first:
- Open Settings, then Battery, and look at which apps use the most. One misbehaving app can drain a healthy battery.
- Update iPadOS. Some updates fix battery drain bugs.
- Lower screen brightness and turn off background app refresh for apps that don’t need it.
- If your model shows battery health or cycle count in Settings, a capacity well below 80 percent is a common point to replace it.
If none of that helps, or the iPad shuts down with charge still showing, the battery is the likely cause. The diagnosis is free and confirms it.
Swollen iPad battery: what to do
If the screen is bulging, lifting at an edge, or the iPad no longer sits flat, the battery may be swelling. That’s gas building up inside a failing cell. Take it seriously.
- Stop charging it and stop using it.
- Don’t press the screen back down or try to open the iPad.
- Keep it somewhere cool, on a hard surface, away from anything flammable.
- Book a repair soon and mention the swelling, so we can advise on the safest way to get it to us.
A swelling battery can also crack the display from the inside, so acting early can save you the cost of a new screen.
How iPad battery replacement works
There’s no battery door on an iPad. The battery is glued to the inside of the case, underneath the display. To replace it, the display has to come off first.
- We warm and lift the display, then disconnect it and the battery.
- The old battery is released from its adhesive slowly, using heat and adhesive remover. Prying or bending a lithium cell can puncture it, so we don’t force it.
- The new battery is fitted with fresh adhesive and connected.
- The display is resealed with new adhesive and the iPad is tested: charging, discharge, and every display and touch function.
Lifting the display is the delicate part, especially on laminated iPad Air, mini and Pro models. If your screen is already cracked or lifting, we tell you before starting, because that changes the risk and sometimes the plan.
What affects the price of an iPad battery replacement
Battery replacements start from $129.99. Larger iPads, especially the iPad Pro, have bigger batteries that cost more. Screen condition matters too: if the display is cracked or damaged by swelling, it may need replacing at the same time. We confirm the full price with you before any work. If you’ve been putting off a cracked screen, this is a good time to do both, since the display comes off anyway. See iPad display replacement.
Battery, port or board? How we tell
Charging and battery faults can look alike from the outside. At the free diagnosis we measure how much current the iPad draws while charging, check the port with known-good cables, and read the battery’s condition. If needed, we connect a known-good test battery. That tells us whether the battery has worn out, the port is the problem, or a charging part on the board has failed, so you only pay for the part that actually needs replacing. If it turns out to be the port, see iPad charging port repair.

Questions
Can I keep using an iPad with an old battery?
Yes, as long as it isn’t swollen, hot or damaged. A worn battery is an inconvenience rather than a hazard. A swollen one is different: stop using it and book a repair.
Is it safe to mail an iPad with a swollen battery?
Tell us when you book. A visibly swollen or damaged battery needs different handling, and we’ll advise whether mail-in or a nearby partner store is the better option for you.
Will a battery replacement erase my iPad?
No. The storage isn’t touched. Your apps, photos and settings will be exactly as you left them.
Why is the battery percentage odd for the first few days?
iPadOS learns how a new battery behaves over its first few charge cycles. The percentage may jump a little at first, then settle. Charging it normally is all it needs.
My iPad won’t charge at all. Is that the battery?
It could be the battery, the charging port or the charging circuit on the board. We test all three at the free diagnosis. If it’s the port, see our iPad charging port repair page.
