iPad won’t turn on? We find out why, down to the board.
A black screen, a boot loop on the Apple logo, or no sign of life after a drop or spill. We diagnose it for free and repair the board at the component level, which usually keeps your data where it is.

Signs you need this repair
Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.
- Black screen with no Apple logo, even after charging
- Stuck on the Apple logo or restarting in a loop
- Makes sounds or vibrates, but the screen stays black
- Won’t charge, or gets warm on the charger with no response
- Stopped working after a drop, a spill or an update
- Shows up on a computer but nothing on the screen
Try these steps first
Some iPads that seem dead are just deeply discharged or frozen. These steps are safe and don’t erase anything:
- Plug it into a wall charger you know works, with a known-good cable, and leave it for at least 30 minutes. A fully drained battery can take a while to show anything.
- Force restart. On iPads with a Home button, hold the Home button and the top button together until the Apple logo appears. On iPads without a Home button, press and release the volume button nearest the top button, press and release the other volume button, then hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
- Connect it to a computer. If the computer offers to update or restore the iPad, choose Update. Update reinstalls iPadOS and keeps your data. Restore erases everything, so don’t choose it unless your data is backed up.
If it’s still dead, stop there. Repeated attempts and restores can make data recovery harder.
What usually causes an iPad to stop turning on
- A failed battery. Old batteries can drop too low to start the iPad at all.
- A display or backlight fault. The iPad is running, but you can’t see it. Sounds or notifications are the giveaway.
- Charging faults. A damaged port or a failed charging chip on the board means the battery never gets power.
- Liquid damage. Even a small spill can corrode components on the board, sometimes days or weeks later.
- Drop damage. A hard impact can crack solder joints, damage components or bend the board, especially on thin iPad Pro and Air models.
- A failed update. This one is often fixable with the Update option above.
How iPad logic board repair works
Most repair shops and the standard manufacturer route treat a dead iPad as a whole-unit swap. We repair the board itself. That means finding the one component that failed, which might be a small capacitor, a power chip, or a connector, and replacing just that.
At the free diagnosis we open the iPad, inspect the board under a microscope for corrosion or impact damage, and measure how much current it draws on a bench power supply. A board that pulls too much current usually has a short. We find it by measuring power lines and using thermal imaging to spot the part that heats up. A board that pulls no current points to a different stage of the power-up sequence. Then the failed part is removed and replaced with microsoldering tools, and the iPad is tested end to end.
Because your original board is repaired rather than replaced, the storage stays in place. When the repair works, your photos, messages and apps are still there.
Repair, recover, or let it go?
After the diagnosis we give you honest options. If the repair makes sense for the age and value of your iPad, we quote it. If the iPad is old and the photos inside matter more than the device, a data recovery may be the better choice. If neither is worth it, we say so and send it back. No fix, no fee.
What affects the price
This repair starts with a free check, because two iPads with the same symptom can have very different faults. The price depends on which components failed, how much liquid damage there is, and whether another part such as the battery, screen or port also needs replacing. You get a firm price before any work, and nothing happens until you approve it.
Before you send it in
Tell us what happened: a drop, a spill, an update, or a new charger. Leave it switched off if it got wet, and don’t keep charging it. Remove the case. We may ask for your passcode only to test the iPad once it works again. Sharing it is your choice. We never bypass passcodes or Activation Lock, so an iPad locked to someone else’s account can’t be repaired for use.

Questions
Can a water-damaged iPad that won’t turn on be fixed?
Often, yes. Corrosion keeps spreading after a spill, so the sooner the board is cleaned and repaired, the better the odds. Don’t try to charge it to see if it still works.
Will I lose my data if you repair the board?
Usually not. Board repair keeps the original storage in place. Restoring the iPad from a computer is what erases data, so avoid that if nothing is backed up.
My iPad shows a red battery with a cable icon. Is it broken?
That icon means the battery is too low to start. Leave it on a known-good wall charger for at least 30 minutes. If it never moves past that screen, the battery or charging circuit needs a look.
How can I tell if it’s the screen or the iPad that’s dead?
Plug it in, then try playing a sound, such as a call from another device or an alarm going off. If you hear it, or a computer detects the iPad, it’s running and the problem is likely the display or backlight. If there’s no sign of life at all, it’s a power or board fault. The free diagnosis confirms which.
Do you need my Apple Account details?
No. We never need your Apple Account password. If the iPad is disabled or locked to an account, we can’t remove that lock, but we can still repair the hardware for the owner.
