iPad display replacement for lines, spots and dark screens.
The glass can be fine and the picture can still fail. We find out whether it’s the display, the cable or the board, then replace only what’s actually broken.

Signs you need this repair
Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.
- Vertical or horizontal lines across the picture
- A black, ink-like blot that spreads over time
- The screen is dark but you still hear sounds and notifications
- Flickering, or a backlight that’s dim or uneven
- A white, gray or rainbow-colored screen
- Bright or discolored pressure marks after something pressed on it
- Cracked glass on an iPad Air, mini or Pro, where glass and display are fused
Display or glass: which part failed?
On a standard iPad (the line without Air, mini or Pro in the name), the glass and the display are separate parts. If the glass is cracked but the picture is perfect, you need a glass repair. If the glass is fine but the picture has lines, spots or no image, you need a display. If both are damaged, we replace both and price them together.
On iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later and every iPad Pro, the glass and display are laminated into one assembly. Any damage to either layer, a crack or a dead picture, is fixed by replacing that full display assembly.
Is it the screen, or the iPad itself?
A dark screen isn’t always a broken display. If your iPad makes sounds, vibrates, or shows up when you plug it into a computer, it’s running, and something in the picture path has failed. That could be the panel, the display cable or connector, or the backlight circuit on the logic board.
On LCD models there’s a quick check: in a dim room, shine a flashlight at the screen at an angle. If you can faintly see icons, the panel is making a picture and the backlight has failed. That points to either the display’s backlight or a board-level fault.
At the free diagnosis we connect a known-good test display before quoting. If the test screen works, the problem is your display. If it doesn’t, the fault is on the board, and we quote a logic board repair instead. Either way, you don’t pay for a part you didn’t need.
iPad display types and part options
iPads use several display technologies, and the part costs vary a lot between them:
- LCD (Liquid Retina): the standard iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini, and the 11-inch iPad Pro models from 2018 to 2022.
- Mini-LED (Liquid Retina XDR): the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 5th and 6th generation.
- Tandem OLED (Ultra Retina XDR): the iPad Pro with M4 and later.
For many models there’s a choice between a new aftermarket display and a refurbished original-quality assembly. They differ in brightness, color accuracy and price. Mini-LED and OLED iPad Pro panels have fewer options and cost the most. We tell you exactly which part you’re getting before any work starts.
What happens during an iPad display replacement
Like the glass, an iPad display is held in with adhesive, not screws. On laminated models we warm the edges, lift the full assembly out of the frame, and remove all the old adhesive. On standard iPads the glass has to come off first to reach the display underneath, which is why a broken display on these models often means replacing the glass as well. We tell you upfront if that applies.
With the new display fitted, we bond it with fresh adhesive and test brightness, color, touch, Apple Pencil, cameras, and sensors. The adhesive needs time to set, so plan on a day or more at the bench.
What affects the price of an iPad display replacement
Display replacements start from $129.99. The main factors are your model and display technology, the part grade you choose, whether the glass also needs replacing on a standard iPad, and any frame damage from a drop. The price is confirmed with you before we start.
If your battery is also getting weak, ask about doing both at once. The display has to come off to reach an iPad battery, so combining the two saves you a second repair later. See iPad battery replacement.
Before you book
If you can still see enough of the screen, back up to iCloud or a computer. Note when the problem started and whether the iPad was dropped, pressed, or got wet, because that helps us find the fault faster. Remove the case and keep accessories at home. If the glass is cracked as well, cover it with clear packing tape so it doesn’t shed fragments in transit. We may ask for your passcode only to test the new display. Sharing it is up to you.

Questions
Why does the black spot on my iPad screen keep growing?
That’s usually liquid crystal leaking inside a damaged LCD layer, often after pressure or a drop. It doesn’t repair itself and tends to spread until the display is replaced.
Can I use my iPad with an external monitor until it’s fixed?
Often, yes. USB-C iPads can mirror to an external display with a USB-C to HDMI adapter, and Lightning iPads can use Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter. That can be enough to back up or reach your files.
The lines appeared after an update. Is it software?
Almost never. Lines are a hardware fault in the display or its connection. A force restart is worth one try, but if the lines survive a restart, the screen or its connector needs attention.
Will my Apple Pencil still pair after a display replacement?
Yes. Pencil pairing is handled by the iPad itself, not the screen. We test Pencil input on the new display before it goes back to you.
Can a damaged iPad display be repaired instead of replaced?
The panel itself can’t be repaired. Once the liquid crystal, OLED layer or internal backlight is damaged, the display is replaced. What can be repaired is the backlight and display circuitry on the logic board, which is why we test with a known-good screen first. If the fault is on the board, a small component repair may be all you need.
