Signs you need this repair

Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.

  • Cracked or shattered glass, even if the picture still looks fine
  • Touch not responding in one area, or across the whole screen
  • Ghost touches: apps opening or typing on their own
  • Glass lifting away from the frame at an edge or corner
  • Apple Pencil skipping or not registering on part of the screen
  • A Home button that feels loose or sunken after a drop
  • A small chip at the corner that keeps spreading

Can you replace just the glass on an iPad?

It depends on the model, and it makes a big difference to the price. The front of an iPad is two layers: the touch glass (the digitizer) and the display that makes the picture. On some iPads they’re separate parts. On others they’re bonded together at the factory, which Apple calls a fully laminated display.

  • Separate glass (the cheaper repair): the standard iPad line, including the 5th through 10th generation and the A16 model, plus older models such as the iPad 2–4, iPad mini 1–3 and the first iPad Air.
  • Laminated, glass and display fused: iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and every iPad Pro. Cracked glass on these means replacing the full display assembly, priced as a display replacement.

Not sure which you have? Go to Settings, then General, then About, and look at Model Name. If the screen is too broken to read, the model number (it starts with A) is printed in small text on the back. You can also just pick your model when you book and we’ll confirm it at the free diagnosis.

How iPad glass replacement works

iPad glass isn’t held on with screws or clips. It’s bonded to the frame with adhesive all the way around, so replacing it is slow, careful work.

  1. We warm the edges to soften the adhesive and lift the cracked glass away from the frame. Broken glass tends to break further, so this is done in small sections.
  2. The display underneath is disconnected and set aside, protected from glass fragments.
  3. Every shard and every trace of old adhesive is cleaned off the frame, so the new glass sits flat and doesn’t lift later.
  4. On models with a Home button, your original button is moved to the new glass. Touch ID is paired to your iPad’s logic board, so keeping the original button is what keeps fingerprint unlock working.
  5. New adhesive goes on, the new glass is fitted and clamped while it bonds.
  6. We test the touch grid edge to edge, Apple Pencil where supported, the Home button and Touch ID, and the display.

The adhesive needs time to bond, which is why iPad glass repairs typically take a day or more rather than an hour.

What affects the price of an iPad glass repair

Separate-glass repairs start from $84.99. A few things can change the final price, and we confirm it with you before any work starts:

  • Your model. Glass sizes and parts differ between generations. Laminated models need a full display assembly, which costs more.
  • Damage underneath. If the display under the glass also has lines, black spots or bleeding, it needs replacing too.
  • A bent frame. A hard drop can bend the aluminum frame. New glass won’t sit flat on a bent frame, so it may need straightening first.
  • Home button damage. If the button itself is broken, a replacement works as a button, but Touch ID can’t be restored with a non-original part.

Glass part quality: what to look for

Replacement digitizer glass varies more than most people expect. The things that matter are touch accuracy all the way to the edges, how cleanly it fits the frame, Apple Pencil response on supported models, and a fingerprint-resistant coating on the surface. We use quality parts and tell you what you’re getting before we start. If there’s more than one grade available for your model, we explain the trade-off in plain terms and let you choose.

Is it safe to keep using a cracked iPad?

For a short time, usually. But cracked iPad glass doesn’t stay the same. Cracks spread with heat changes and pressure, small shards can come loose and cut fingers, and dust and moisture can get inside through the gaps. Touch often starts failing along a crack line, sometimes with ghost touches that open apps on their own.

If you need to keep using it until the repair, put a strip of clear packing tape over the cracked area to hold fragments in place, and avoid pressing on the crack. If a screen protector is holding the broken glass together, leave it on.

Before you send your iPad in

  • Back it up to iCloud or a computer if it still works. A glass repair doesn’t touch your data, but a backup is good practice before any repair.
  • Take off the case. Keep your Apple Pencil, keyboard and charger at home unless we ask for them.
  • Tape over badly shattered glass so it doesn’t shed fragments in transit.
  • You don’t need to turn off Find My. We may ask for your passcode only to test touch and Touch ID after the repair. Sharing it is your choice, and we never ask for your Apple Account password.

Questions

Will Touch ID still work after an iPad glass replacement?

Yes, as long as your original Home button is undamaged. We move it from the old glass to the new one. Touch ID is paired to your iPad’s logic board, so a replacement Home button can work as a button but not as a fingerprint reader.

My glass is cracked but touch still works. Can I wait?

You can, but cracks tend to spread and touch often starts failing along the crack line. Waiting also risks damage to the display underneath, which turns a glass repair into a more expensive one.

Will I lose anything on my iPad?

No. Glass replacement doesn’t touch the storage, so your apps, photos and settings stay as they are.

Will my Apple Pencil work with the new glass?

On models with separate glass, the Pencil sensing is part of the glass layer, so a good replacement restores it. We test Pencil input across the screen before the iPad goes back to you.

Can you fix glass on an iPad that’s also bent?

Often, yes. We check the frame at the free diagnosis. A slightly bent frame can sometimes be straightened before fitting new glass. If the bend is too severe for a reliable repair, we’ll tell you before any work.
