Signs you need this repair
Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.
- The cable feels loose or falls out of the port
- Charging only works if you hold the cable at an angle
- The phone charges slowly and no longer shows fast charging
- A moisture detected warning appears even when the phone is dry
- The phone charges wirelessly but not with a cable
- Your computer no longer recognizes the phone over USB
- It says Charging, but the percentage barely moves
Is it the port, the cable or the phone?
Start with the cheap checks. Try a different cable and wall charger, ideally ones you know work with another phone. Cables fail far more often than ports, especially at the plug end.
- If wireless charging works but wired doesn’t, the battery and charging circuit are probably fine, which points to the port.
- If neither works, the problem may be the battery, the charging chip or the board. That’s still a free diagnosis.
- On a Samsung, the lock screen says Fast charging or Super fast charging when it’s working at full speed. If it only says Charging with a fast charger and a good cable, the port contacts may be worn or dirty.
Lint is the most common cause
Pocket lint packs into the bottom of a USB-C port a little every time you plug in. Eventually the plug can’t seat fully. It feels loose, and charging cuts in and out. A lot of phones that come in for a port repair just need cleaning.
You can check it yourself. Turn the phone off and shine a light into the port. If you see a gray or dark layer at the back, gently scrape it out with a wooden or plastic toothpick. Work along the walls, not the thin contact tab in the middle, and don’t use pins, needles or liquid. If the lint is packed hard or the cable is still loose after cleaning, let us look at it.
Moisture detected warning on Samsung phones
Samsung phones check the port for moisture before charging. If they sense it, wired charging stops and a warning appears. After a splash or a humid day that’s normal: unplug, let the phone sit somewhere dry and ventilated, and the warning clears on its own. Don’t heat the port or blow into it.
If the warning stays for days, or shows up on a phone that hasn’t been near water, there is usually corrosion or residue on the port contacts. Sometimes the port is simply worn out. Wireless charging keeps working in the meantime, so it’s a good stopgap until the repair.
How the charging port is replaced
On most Galaxy and Pixel phones the USB-C port isn’t soldered to the main board. It sits on a small charging board at the bottom of the phone, often together with the bottom microphone. We open the phone, swap that board for a new one, and reseal it. This is a routine repair and partner stores can often do it the same day.
Some phones, including certain budget models, have the port soldered directly to the main board. Those need microsoldering, so we confirm the price after the free diagnosis. Either way, after the repair we test wired charging speed, data transfer to a computer, the microphone and wireless charging.
When the problem isn’t the port
Sometimes a phone won’t charge even with a new port. Common causes are a failed charging chip, a worn battery that won’t accept charge, or liquid damage on the board. Damaged cheap chargers can also play a part.
A few patterns point away from the port. A phone that only charges while it’s turned off, one that stops charging at the same percentage every time, or one that gets hot on the charger with no case on it usually has a battery or charging-circuit fault. Tell us what you’ve noticed when you book. It speeds up the diagnosis. This is exactly why we diagnose before quoting. You won’t pay for a port that doesn’t fix the problem. If it’s a deeper fault, see board repair for Android phones that won’t turn on.
Before you book
If the port still works some of the time, use that window to back up your phone, because a failing port can stop working completely. Charge wirelessly if you can, take off the case, remove the SIM and any memory card, and leave your Google account signed in. Starting prices are on the booking page; port repairs start from $79.

Questions
Will a new port bring back fast charging?
If worn or dirty contacts were the cause, yes. We test charging speed with a known-good fast charger after the repair. If fast charging still doesn’t work, the cause is elsewhere, and we explain what we found.
People can’t hear me on calls, and my port is loose. Is that related?
Often, yes. On many Android phones the bottom microphone sits on the same small board as the charging port, so the one replacement part can fix both.
Can a cheap charger damage my phone’s port?
A poorly made charger or cable can damage the port contacts or the charging circuit, especially if it overheats. Use chargers and cables from reputable brands rated for USB-C.
How long does a charging port repair take?
On phones with a separate charging board, it’s one of the quicker repairs, and partner stores can often do it the same day. Ports soldered to the main board take longer. Mail-in is typically 7–10 days door to door.
Can I keep using wireless charging instead of fixing the port?
You can, if your phone supports it. But you lose wired data transfer and the fastest charging. A port with corrosion can also get worse over time.
