Signs you need this repair

Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.

  • Cracked or chipped glass over one of the rear lenses
  • Photos look hazy, foggy or full of flare
  • The camera won’t focus or keeps hunting in and out
  • A black screen, or a camera failed message in the camera app
  • Video shakes or wobbles, or you hear a buzzing from the camera
  • Dust or a spot that shows up in every photo

Lens glass, camera module or the screen?

Each rear camera sits behind a small glass lens cover. When that cover cracks, the camera underneath usually still works, but photos turn hazy, light sources streak, and dust can get in. Replacing just the lens cover is a smaller job and often the cheapest camera repair.

If the camera shows black, won’t focus, or shakes in video, the camera module itself has failed. Most Galaxy flagships have a separate module for each rear lens, so a failed telephoto or ultra-wide can be replaced without touching the others. The front camera is also its own module, behind the hole in the screen.

Blurry selfies are often caused by a smudge, or by a screen protector or case lip that covers part of the hole. Check those first. If the screen is cracked right over the camera, the camera itself may be fine, and the fix is a new screen. See screen repair. If selfies are black or won’t focus with a clean, undamaged screen, the front camera module is replaced.

Try these first

  • Wipe each lens with a clean microfiber cloth. Fingerprint grease is the most common cause of hazy photos.
  • Take off the case. Some cases block part of a lens or the flash, and magnets in cases or mounts can interfere with focus.
  • Switch between lenses (ultra-wide, main, zoom) and the front camera to see which one is affected.
  • Go to Settings › Apps › Camera › Storage and clear the cache, then restart the phone.
  • Restart in safe mode and open the camera. If it works there, a third-party app is interfering.

If one lens is still black, blurry or shaking after all that, it’s a hardware fault.

Blurry photos, focus hunting and shaky video

The main cameras in most modern phones have optical image stabilization. The lens floats on tiny magnets and springs so it can counter hand shake. A hard drop can damage that mechanism, and so can strong vibration, like a phone mounted on motorcycle handlebars. When it fails you may see blurry photos, a wobbly preview, or hear a faint buzz or rattle when the camera app is open.

Autofocus can fail the same way, leaving close-ups or distant shots permanently soft. Neither problem is fixed by software. The camera module needs replacing.

How Galaxy and Pixel camera repairs work

We confirm which camera is at fault, then open the phone. Galaxy phones are usually opened from the back. Many Pixels are opened from the front, which takes more care. For a lens cover, we remove the broken glass, clean dust from the lens, and fit a new cover with fresh adhesive. For a module, we disconnect and replace the faulty camera and leave the working ones in place.

Afterward we test every lens, autofocus near and far, stabilization in video, zoom levels, portrait mode, the flash and the front camera. If the back glass is also cracked, it often makes sense to replace it at the same time. See back glass repair.

What affects the price of a camera repair?

Camera repairs start from $69. A lens cover alone is at the low end. Main and telephoto modules on Ultra and Pro models are at the high end, especially periscope zoom cameras. Front cameras are usually in between. You’ll see a price when you choose your model on the booking page, and we confirm it after the free diagnosis, before any work. Partner stores can often replace a lens cover or camera the same day; mail-in is typically 7–10 days door to door.

Before you book

  • Take a sample photo or short video that shows the problem, and note which lens and mode it happens in.
  • Back up your photos. A camera repair doesn’t touch your data, but a backup is always smart.
  • Remove the case, any lens protectors, the SIM card and any memory card.
  • Leave your Google account signed in. We may ask for your screen passcode only to test the repair.

Questions

Why is there dust inside my camera?

Dust gets in through a crack in the lens cover or a gap in its seal. We clean the lens and fit a new, sealed cover. If the dust is inside the module itself, the module is replaced.

My phone says the camera failed. Is it broken?

Not always. Clear the camera app’s cache, restart, and try safe mode first. If the message comes back every time, or only one lens is affected, the module or its connector has usually failed.

My rear camera is black but the front camera works. What does that mean?

The phone’s camera software is working, so the fault is almost certainly in that rear module or its connection. It’s a hardware repair, and the diagnosis is free.

Can you fix the camera flash?

Usually. A flash that stopped working can be a damaged flash part, a cracked cover over it, or a fault on the board. We find out which during the free diagnosis and confirm the price before any work.

Will my photos look the same after the repair?

We use quality camera parts matched to your model and test image quality in every mode before the phone goes back. If anything looks off, we sort it out before shipping.
