Nintendo Switch charging port repair.
If your Switch only charges at an angle, won’t show on the TV or stopped charging after a new dock, the USB-C port or the chips behind it are the usual cause. We find which, then fix it.

Signs you need this repair
Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.
- It only charges when the cable is held at an angle
- Nothing appears on the TV when it’s docked
- The charging icon flickers on and off
- The battery drains even while plugged in
- The cable falls out or feels loose in the port
- Lint, debris or a bent center tab inside the port
- It stopped charging after using a new dock or charger
Why Switch USB-C ports fail
The USB-C port takes a lot of strain. Every time the Switch drops into the dock, the dock’s connector pushes into the port, and any side-to-side wobble works the solder joints loose over time. Playing in handheld mode with a cable pulled tight does the same.
- Pocket lint and dust packed into the port so the plug can’t seat fully
- A bent or cracked center tab from a plug forced in at an angle
- Cracked solder joints from docking wear or a dropped console
- Docks and chargers that don’t follow USB-C power rules, which can damage the chips behind the port
Port or charging chip?
A new port doesn’t help if the chips behind it are damaged. On the original Switch, two chips do most of the work: the M92T36, which manages USB-C power and the video signal to the dock, and the BQ24193, which charges the battery. A bad dock or charger can damage one or both. The Switch OLED and Switch Lite use the same type of circuitry, built around their own versions of these parts.
During the free diagnosis we inspect the port, measure what the console draws from a charger, and check those chips and the parts around them. We’ll tell you whether you need a port, a chip, or both, and what each costs.
A worn battery can also look like a charging fault. We test it separately so you don’t pay for the wrong repair.
Once we know the cause, the repair is board work. We remove the old port with controlled heat, clean the pads, fit a new port and inspect every pin under magnification. If a chip has failed, we replace it the same way. Then we test charging from a standard charger, charging in the dock, and video output to a TV on models that support it.
What to try first
- Shine a light into the port. If you see lint, power the Switch off and lift it out gently with a dry wooden toothpick. Never use metal.
- Charge with the official Nintendo AC adapter, directly in the console and not through the dock.
- If the battery was fully drained, leave it charging for at least an hour before you decide it’s dead.
- Hold the power button for about 15 seconds to force a restart, then try charging again.
If it charges in handheld mode but not in the dock, try a different HDMI cable and outlet for the dock before you book.
Model notes
- Original Switch. The most common port and charging-chip repairs we see, especially after third-party docks.
- Switch OLED. Same kind of port wear from docking. We test the charging and video circuit the same way.
- Switch Lite. It can’t output to a TV, so dock-related faults don’t apply, but port wear and drops still do.
- Steam Deck and handheld PCs. We repair USB-C ports on these too. The price depends on the model and how the port is mounted.
How much does Switch charging port repair cost?
USB-C charging port repair starts from $79. The price can go up if a charging or power-delivery chip also needs replacing, if the board has damaged pads or traces, or if the battery needs replacing too. You get the exact price after the free diagnosis, before any work.
Keeping your new port healthy
- Lift the Switch straight up out of the dock instead of tilting it out.
- Use the official dock and charger, or ones from a reputable brand that follow the USB-C power spec.
- Don’t play in handheld mode with the cable pulled tight. A right-angle cable helps.
- Keep the port clear of lint if you carry the Switch in a pocket or bag.
If your Switch is completely dead rather than just not charging, see console won’t turn on.

Questions
Are third-party Switch docks safe?
Some are fine, but a poorly made dock or charger can send the wrong power and damage the charging chips. If yours stopped charging right after a new dock, stop using it and mention it when you book.
My Switch charges but won’t show on the TV. Is that the port?
It can be the port, the chip that handles video output, or the dock and HDMI cable. Test with another cable and outlet first, then book a free diagnosis.
Can a drained battery look like a broken port?
Yes. A battery that’s been flat for a long time can take a while to show any sign of charging. Leave it on the official charger for an hour before you assume the port is broken.
Does the repair touch my games or saves?
No. Charging port and chip repairs don’t touch the console’s storage, so your games, saves and account stay as they are. Remove the microSD card and game card before you send it anyway.
Can I charge my Switch with a phone or laptop charger?
A good-quality USB-C charger usually charges it in handheld mode, sometimes slowly. The dock needs the Nintendo adapter or one that supports the same power levels. Cheap, unbranded chargers are the ones to avoid.
