Data recovery for laptops, desktops and failed drives.
Photos, documents and work files from a computer that won't boot, a drive that clicks or a laptop that's been dropped. We tell you what's recoverable and the price before we start.
- 1–3 days typical
- No fix, no fee
- 90-day warranty
- Free insured mail-in shipping
Signs you need this repair
Sound familiar? The diagnosis is always free.
- Computer won't boot or says no boot device found
- Hard drive clicking, beeping or grinding
- Drive missing from File Explorer or Disk Management
- Files or folders deleted by mistake
- Laptop dropped while it was running
- Windows asks to format a drive you need
- Very slow copying, freezing or read errors
Stop and do this first
What you do in the first few minutes can decide whether your files come back. The rule is simple: the less a failing drive runs, the better.
- If a hard drive clicks, grinds or beeps, shut it down and don't turn it back on. Each attempt can damage the surface where your data is stored.
- Don't run disk repair tools, recovery programs or a Windows reset on the drive you want to recover. They write to the drive and can overwrite what you need.
- If Windows asks to format a drive, say no.
- If you deleted files by accident, stop using that computer. New files and updates can overwrite the deleted ones.
- If the computer won't boot but the drive was healthy, the files are usually fine. Don't reinstall Windows to get it going, because that writes over the drive.
- Don't open the drive. A hard drive's insides can be ruined by a speck of dust.
Logical vs. physical drive failures
Data loss falls into two broad groups, and they're priced differently.
- Logical problems: the drive works, but the files can't be reached. Deleted files, a corrupted file system, a reformatted drive or a Windows install that won't start. These are often recoverable with careful copying and software work.
- Physical problems: the drive itself is failing. Clicking hard drives, failing read heads, failed SSD controllers, or damage from a drop, liquid or a power surge. These take more work, and some need repair inside the drive. If yours does, we explain what's involved and the cost before anything happens.
Where the drive can be read, we start by making a full copy of it, called an image, and recover from that copy. That way the original isn't stressed more than it has to be.
Hard drives, SSDs and soldered storage
- Hard drives often give warning: slowing down, freezing or making noises. They're the most common source of recoverable data in older computers.
- SSDs tend to fail without warning. Deleted files on an SSD are often gone for good, because the drive clears deleted space in the background using a feature called TRIM.
- Soldered storage on some thin laptops and on Apple silicon iMac and Mac mini models can't be removed. Recovery means getting the computer working again, often with board repair.
- Encrypted drives: if BitLocker or Device Encryption is on, the files can only be read with the recovery key, which is often saved in your Microsoft account. We can't and won't bypass encryption.
How much does data recovery cost?
Data recovery starts from $149. The price depends on the type of failure, the drive's condition and how much data there is. A healthy drive in a dead laptop is at the low end. A failing drive with bad sectors takes longer. A drive that needs internal repair costs the most. Very large drives take longer to copy, which can add to the price too.
The diagnosis is free. We tell you which files look recoverable, confirm the price, and only start once you approve. If we can't recover the files you need, you don't pay for the recovery.
Your files and your privacy
Recovered files can include family photos, financial records and work documents. We only open files as far as we need to check they recovered properly. Tell us what matters most, like your Pictures folder or a particular project, and we check those first. If there's anything you'd rather we didn't open, tell us that too.
We agree with you how the files come back, for example on an external drive. Keep the original drive until you've checked everything. Then set up a backup so this doesn't happen again: an external drive, cloud storage or both. File History in Windows and Time Machine on a Mac make it automatic.

Questions
How long does data recovery take?
Copying files from a healthy drive is quick. Failing drives take longer, because they have to be read slowly and carefully, sometimes over several days. We give you an estimate once we've diagnosed the drive.
Can you recover data from a laptop that was dropped?
Often. If it has a hard drive and was running when it fell, the drive may be damaged inside, so don't keep trying to start it. SSDs handle drops much better.
Can you get files back after a format or a Windows reset?
Sometimes. A quick format on a hard drive often leaves the files recoverable. A full format, a reset that wipes the drive, or any format on an SSD usually means the data is gone. Stop using the drive and let us check.
Do you need my password?
For an unencrypted drive, no. For an encrypted drive, we need the BitLocker recovery key. We never need passwords for your email or online accounts, and we never bypass passwords, account locks or encryption.
Do you recover external hard drives and SSDs?
Yes. External drives fail in the same ways internal ones do. Tell us the drive's brand and size when you book, and whether it was dropped or just stopped showing up.
